About Shona

Whilst undertaking her legal traineeship, and since qualifying as a Solicitor, Shona has specialised solely in private client work. She provides advice on a wide variety of services for clients and their families, including wills, trusts, executries, powers of attorney; guardianships & intervention orders; advanced directives (living wills), charities and tax efficient succession planning. As the legal, financial and care priorities of her clients change, Shona is dedicated to helping them, and their families, with whatever advice and practical support they may need. She specialises in advice relating to compensation protection, planning for nursing home care costs, benefits entitlements and adult incapacity issues. Shona is proud to say that she is one of only a handful of Scottish solicitors to have passed the examination for membership of the national association Solicitors for the Elderly.

Shona has a particular interest in the formation, management and termination of all types of trust, including personal injury, disabled beneficiary, discretionary, liferent and charitable. In addition to advising trustees, she acts as trustee for a number of trusts, and is a notary public and Writer to the Signet.

Helping Groups and Organisations

Shona regularly provides workshops and seminars in relation to various private client matters. As a specialist in this area, Shona has the knowledge and expertise to provide talks on various topics, providing help, advice and support to groups and organisations in Scotland, free of charge.

Shona tailors her workshops around topics most suitable to the group or organisation and past subjects have included advice regarding care costs and the family home to preparing a Power of Attorney to the importance of an Advance Directive.

Shona is a member of Solicitors for Older People Scotland and Solicitors for the Elderly and has completed Dementia Awareness Training with Alzheimer Scotland – Action on Dementia. She is also listed on Alzheimer’s Research UK’s list of Solicitors with experience of advising clients affected by dementia.

Workshop and Seminars Feedback

I found the workshop very interesting. I was sceptical as I thought that I had everything "sorted" - but discovered a few things I didn't know or had not thought about. Janette

I thought the workshop was really good – it was very informative and I learnt a lot.  Shona spoke very well in plain English which was easy to understand.  I liked the format of information and examples, followed by questions and answers, the session passed really quickly.  Angela

The workshop was extremely informative and well presented. Marta

I found the workshop very interesting and informative.  Made you realise things you should put in place, not just a will and Shona explained everything very well. Natalie
