About Stewart

Stewart has been with Thompsons man and boy. He started with the firm as an office junior many years ago and one day decided to make the quantum leap to qualify as a solicitor. A year at night school paved the way for him to sit, and pass, all nine Law Society professional exams over a period of four years, before gaining the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh and culminating in qualifying as a solicitor in 2005. He is now an accredited specialist in personal injury law.

Expertise

Stewart’s speciality lies in pursuer only personal injury litigation in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session and he is now gaining valuable experience in the new All Scotland Specialist Personal Injury Court. He has represented clients in the Sheriff Court and also Employment Tribunals during a brief spell in the employment team.

He has a mixed caseload including cases involving accidents at work, accidents abroad, public and occupier’s liability, accidents on the road and product liability. Stewart is especially interested in grappling with the many demands and challenges presented by serious and catastrophic injury claims and is passionate about achieving justice for all clients. In the last five years, Stewart has obtained over £10 Million in Compensation for his clients.

His recent successes involve a Jury Trial in the Court of Session in January 2016 in which the jury awarded his client, who suffered permanent effects of food poisoning, over a quarter of a million pounds, whereas she had only been offered a fraction of that sum before going to trial.

In 2019 Stewart brought two test cases before the Court of Session (2019csoh50.pdf (scotcourts.gov.uk) that were successful and paved the way for around 200 more cases settling that arose out of accidents involving cyclists on Edinburgh’s tram tracks. These accidents started in 2009 when Princes Street opened following the first phase of the track construction and continue to present day.
