Peter is responsible for the day-to-day management of Thompsons' Union Employment Rights unit. He is one of two partners who supervise and manage the Employment Law team. He also advises and represents union members in relation to individual cases involving disputes with employers.
Having worked in employment law for nearly 25 years Peter has been involved in the voluntary, public and private sectors in both Scotland and England. He worked in Citizen Advice Bureaux, Law Centres, and for the Equal Opportunities Commission before joining Thompsons.
Peter has always worked on the claimant side of employment law disputes; helping employees in cases against their employers.
Below, Peter talks more about his role as joint head of the Employment Unit, and who he and his department represent.
Dealing with a wide variety of employment cases, from wages disputes to unfair dismissal claims and complex discrimination cases, Peter has also acted for clients in cases before the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal, and the Court of Session.
Peter has particular interest and expertise in discrimination law and equal pay cases and has dealt with trade union-backed equal pay litigation for a number of year; representing thousands of claimants across Scotland and securing tens of millions of pounds in compensation for them.
Peter has a number of legal qualifications including a Masters degree in Employment Law from the University of Leicester
