Make a claim with Thompsons Solicitors in Scotland

Drivers who owned or leased a Kia diesel vehicle between 2009 and 2020 could be able to claim compensation with Thompsons Solicitors. This is because many of Kia’s diesel vehicles were fitted with software that changes the vehicle’s emissions controls while under test conditions.

As a result, many drivers were unaware of how harmful the emissions from their Kia diesel vehicle were. If you would like to see if you could make a claim with Thompsons Solicitors, follow the link below to check your vehicle’s registration.

Kia diesel vehicle claims

Kia is a South Korean manufacturer and an affiliate company of Hyundai, which has also been involved in the emissions scandal. Both Kia and Hyundai were reportedly fined $100 million in 2014 after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found both manufacturers guilty of violating the Clean Air Act by deceiving their customers with regard to their cars’ fuel economy and emissions. The carmakers had published only the optimum performance data, not the average, significantly understating the level of harmful pollutants emitted by the vehicles.

In 2022, eight properties belonging to Kia and Hyundai in Germany and Luxembourg were searched by German authorities when it was alleged that the companies had over 210,000 vehicles with defeat devices on the road.

The mechanisms and software used by Kia in its engines were allegedly supplied to them by Bosch and Delphi. Bosch played a large role in the initial ‘Dieselgate’ scandal, as it provided Volkswagen with the same technology.

Because of the high number of vehicles, it is reasonable to assume that any Kia model sold between 2009 and 2020 could potentially have a defeat device. Fitting a vehicle with a defeat device is fraud, and owners who were missold a car have the right to claim compensation.
