Jaguar Land Rover Diesel Vehicle Claims
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is part of the Indian automotive group Tata Motors Ltd.
Tata became the parent company of Jaguar Land Rover when the two marques were acquired from Ford in 2008. In 2013, the two companies were renamed as part of a restructuring process and became Jaguar Land Rover Automotive PLC.
Initial estimates suggest that around 365,000 Jaguar Land Rover vehicles may be involved in the diesel emissions scandal.
In 2016, the German VW Commission Enquiry reported that a Jaguar XE 2.0 was found to be producing nine times the threshold emissions value in a real-world driving test and a Range Rover 3.0 was producing 11 times the threshold during on-road testing.
Jaguar Land Rover, alongside other manufacturers of motor vehicles for the European market, is citing a 2016 UK Department for Transport (DfT) report as evidence that they have not committed any breaches. The report stated that while it found higher than allowed NOx emissions during its testing of a Jaguar XE, Land Rover Freelander and Range Rover Sport, it had not found evidence that other manufacturers used "software of the type used by Volkswagen".
Speaking to Clyde 1 radio, Patrick McGuire of Thompsons Solicitors in Scotland said that "the use of cheat devices is almost industry-wide".
He added, "All too often we have situations where big organisations commit wrongs against large numbers of people and they try to hide.
"These manufacturers have finally been caught and … I would like to see them set up a full and proper compensation scheme."
Which JLR models are affected?
Investigations into Jaguar Land Rover are still ongoing; however, the diesel models identified for potential emissions breaches are:
- Jaguar XE
- Jaguar XF
- Land Rover Discovery Sport
- Land Rover Discovery
- Range Rover Sport
- Land Rover Evoque
