The first reports of someone being hit by a tram in Edinburgh came within seven days of the network becoming operational in 2014, while in July 2015 it was revealed that a group of around 60 cyclists were making compensation claims for the breaks, sprains and fractures they had suffered as a result of accidents involving the city's trams and trackways.
The advice to pedestrians and others is, as ever, to be vigilant when you are crossing a road on which trams travel. You should be aware that trams move at different speeds and have different stopping distances to those of more common vehicles. They may also be quieter than other vehicles, making them less noticeable when coming up from behind.
If you have been hurt in an accident involving a tram that was not your fault, you may be entitled to claim compensation for your injuries. You may even be able to make a claim if you share some responsibility for the accident, although the compensation you receive will be reduced to take account of this.
