Senior Associate - Accident Team

About Stewart

Stewart has been with Thompsons man and boy. He started with the firm as an office junior many years ago and one day decided to make the quantum leap to qualify as a solicitor. A year at night school paved the way for him to sit, and pass, all nine Law Society professional exams over a period of four years, before gaining the Diploma in Legal Practice at the University of Edinburgh and culminating in qualifying as a solicitor in 2005. He is now an accredited specialist in personal injury law.

Expertise

Stewart’s speciality lies in pursuer only personal injury litigation in the Sheriff Court and Court of Session and he is now gaining valuable experience in the new All Scotland Specialist Personal Injury Court. He has represented clients in the Sheriff Court and also Employment Tribunals during a brief spell in the employment team.

He has a mixed caseload including cases involving accidents at work, accidents abroad, public and occupier’s liability, accidents on the road and product liability. Stewart is especially interested in grappling with the many demands and challenges presented by serious and catastrophic injury claims and is passionate about achieving justice for all clients. In the last five years, Stewart has obtained over £10 Million in Compensation for his clients.

At present, Stewart has a large number of cases arising out of accidents involving cyclists on Edinburgh’s tram tracks. These accidents started in 2009 when Princes Street opened following the first phase of the track construction and have continued until the present day and it is hoped that through bringing a multitude of court actions and pressure to bear on the Council they make the streets safer for cyclists, especially in the areas where they come in to conflict with the tracks.

His recent successes involve a Jury Trial in the Court of Session in January 2016 in which the jury awarded his client, who suffered permanent effects of food poisoning, over a quarter of a million pounds, whereas she had only been offered a fraction of that sum before going to trial.

Below is a video in which Stewart talks about how he represented the victim of a serious road traffic accident. Kaya, who was a school girl at the time, suffered life-changing injuries. Stewart and Thompsons' accident team were able to ensure she received the most appropriate treatment and rehabilitation, and that provision was put in place to protect her financial future for the rest of her life.

S Harper, Edinburgh

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr White for his thoughts, considerations and advice over the last two years. It has been appreciated. I would think it would be quite easy to become blasé about something you deal with on a day-to-day basis. However, your approach has been professional at all times and I would not hesitate in recommending Thompsons to anyone who had need of your services.”

K Thearle, Shropshire

“I would like to thank Stewart White for all he and his team have done for us. Everything he did was done with empathy, professionalism and gentleness.”

“Both my husband and I would like to thank Stewart White and Thompsons for all their help and guidance during the past several months. Without his assistance, I am sure that the final settlement would have been far short of what he was able to secure for me.
