Thompsons has notched up another successful win for a union client who fell at work resulting in head injuries which impacted on her senses.
Janet Harper, who was employed by British Polythene Industries in Greenock, tripped over a piece of metal in the warehouse causing her to fall in November 2010. She put out her hand to break her fall which resulted in soft tissue damage to her right wrist as well as more serious head injuries.
As a member of Unite, Mrs Harper was entitled to free legal support from specialist trade union lawyers Thompsons. Thompsons initiated a claim on her behalf on the grounds that her employers had breached the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 due to the work environment being unsafe. Liability was admitted and a settlement figure of £12,500 was agreed.
Mrs Harper said: “I was really pleased with the result of my claim and grateful to Thompsons and Unite for all their help and support. The whole process was very straightforward and easy and Thompsons handled everything from start to finish.”
