Following the recent disaster off the coast of Italy involving the Costa Concordia I suspect there will be plethora of personal injury claims arising out of that incident. The captain has already admitted deviating off course which is likely to put paid to any defence their insurance company had.

I understand that surviving passengers were offered 30% off their next cruise which is likely to represent a fraction of the injury compensation they can recover if they seek to make a claim for personal injury compensation.

I understand that a number of passengers have already contacted personal injury solicitors and there are citizens of certain jurisdictions preparing to raise a class action against the Costa Group. I had also heard that the company were contacting passengers asking them whether they had experienced flashbacks or nightmares which if true, is a very sneaky way of the company trying to either fend off claims or obtain evidence that passengers did not have the requisite symptoms with which to make a compensation claim.

For the families of the deceased, they will have a claim for their demise and in some cases, the families may have a compensation claim for loss of support. For those surviving the tragedy, I would imagine that personal injury claims for post traumatic stress disorder will be by the hundreds.
