Thompsons specialist survivor claims team is committed to fighting for the rights and interests of people who have suffered sexual, physical or emotional abuse during childhood and in all manner of settings, such as independent and non-religious schools and voluntary organisations.

Although we act robustly to secure compensation from those responsible, our specially trained Survivors Team understands just how difficult and painful it can be to undertake the legal claims process. This is why we operate a trauma-informed approach that ensures sensitivity, support and confidentiality throughout.

Compensation is about more than money – it also allows for recognition of suffering while also representing some tangible form of justice. Furthermore, it can help with the provision of support, care and the resources you need for improved mental health and recovery.

A dedicated team

Our experienced team of abuse claim solicitors can help with claims against a range of independent organisations, including the following:

  • Fee-paying and independent schools
  • Private hospitals
  • Charities
  • Voluntary organisations
  • Abuse in care and residential homes
  • Sports clubs

Please contact us today if you would like to discuss the possibility of proceeding with a claim for compensation. We can help with Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority claims against individual abusers as well as cases against organisations that employed the abuser and in cases when an individual was acting as a volunteer.

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry

The Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry (SCAI) has documented numerous cases of sexual, physical, and emotional abuses against children. The process has cast light on the experiences of survivors and improved efforts to ensure recourse to claims for civil financial compensation.

However, the process is by no means near a conclusion. The SCAI is continuing to investigate and consider evidence in relation to many organisations, some of which are represented in the growing list of claimants who have come forward to Thompsons, including independent schools and non-religious and voluntary organisations, and will soon begin the process of reporting its findings to Scottish Ministers

Thompsons specialist child abuse claims team is committed to supporting survivors in their efforts to secure compensation and has also assisted survivors in providing evidence to the Inquiry.
