The Frank Maguire Memorial Award gives law students across Scotland the opportunity to win not only £1000 cash, but a prestigious internship at Thompsons Solicitors.
Set up in 2014 in memory of Frank Maguire, the award remembers one of Scotland’s most foremost campaigning solicitors.
Described by The Herald newspaper as the ‘champion of the rights of shipyard worker and trade unions’, he was no stranger to fighting for justice. Frank represented victims of the Piper Alpha disaster, miners during the miners’ strike, victims of asbestos related conditions and haemophiliacs infected with Hepatitis C and HIV.
This year, we would like you to write a blog post on a current topic or issue of your choice, inspired by the work of Frank Maguire. Entries should be between 500 and 800 words long. The winning post, along with a number of runners up will feature on the Thompsons blog. You are encouraged to put your own stamp on your entry and show the judges your personality.
