TRIBUTE PAID TO CAMPAIGNING LAWYER FRANK MAGUIRE AT SCOTTISH POLITICIAN OF THE YEAR AWARDS

- MCGUIRE:  “FRANK’S CAMPAIGNING SPIRIT NEEDED MORE THAN EVER IN OUR SOCIETY”

Frank MaguireA special posthumous award was awarded to Solicitor Advocate and victims’ rights campaigner, Frank Maguire, at last night’s Scottish Politician of the Year Awards for his lifetime dedication to campaigning.

The award recognised his work, when senior partner at Thompsons Solicitors, on workers’ rights and particularly his key role in successful campaigns to change the law to benefit the victims of asbestos-related diseases.  Maguire’s efforts received a standing ovation from those at the event.

Speaking following the tribute, partner at Thompsons’ Solicitors, Patrick McGuire, vowed that the Firm will never stop campaigning against injustice in memory of its former senior partner who died of a brain tumour in September.  McGuire paid tribute to Maguire’s belief in the power of law to change people’s lives for the better and said that society needed Frank’s campaigning spirit more than ever.

Tribute Paid to Campaigning Lawyer Frank Maguire Maguire’s firm, Thompsons Solicitors, continues to be the legal force behind some of the leading campaigns in Scottish politics including the C.Diff Justice Group and Clydeside Action on Asbestos.  The Firm was also key in the recent Supreme Court decision to re-establish the right to compensation for pleural plaques sufferers in Scotland.

Speaking following the award, partner at Thompsons Solicitors, Patrick McGuire, said:

“Frank was the people’s advocate, fighting for the victims of injury, injustice and industrial disease across Scotland.  His belief in society and the power of law to change people’s lives for the better continues to be an inspiration.

“Frank never gave up campaigning for what was right – we need that spirit in our society now more than ever.  That’s why Thompsons will never stop making the case for workers’ rights, better health and safety and access to justice for the victims of injury and industrial disease.

“He was an inspirational campaigner and an example to us all.”
