A man was recently injured while out walking on a public footpath. He received a compensation payment for his injuries this week.

He had been out walking his dog on the footpath at the time of the accident. He heard two cyclists coming up the path behind and stepped to the right to get out of their way. As he did this he stepped onto an uneven bit of path and injured his ankle. Due to this injury he was forced to miss 8 weeks of work.

He decided to make a compensation claim on the basis of the council’s failure to regularly inspect and maintain the footpath. He argued that if they had had this system in place then his accident would never have happened. The council agreed to settle and he received £5,525 in compensation for his injury and time off work. He was reportedly pleased with the size of the award and is going to use some of it to pay for additional physiotherapy.
