The president of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers has challenged the insurance industry to commit to reductions in insurance premiums. He stated that whiplash injuries are genuine and can have long-term effects and they should not be trivialised.  He highlighted that before the government declare proposals in relation to whiplash claims that risk prejudicing genuine injured people from bringing compensation claims they should have a wider debate about the actual issues and hold the insurers to account for their role.

Karl Tonks the president of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers pointed out that personal injury lawyers are committed to putting a stop to fraudulent claims. He highlighted that personal injury lawyers could play a part in combating fraud if insurers would share information with them. Insurers however are not willing to share information with personal injury lawyers about fraudulent claimants.

Karl Tonks pointed out that the current system for dealing with whiplash claims in England was slashed following a review of systems two years ago but there has never been a drop in insurance premiums.
