Brian Agard was awarded compensation after being badly injured by a motorbike driver. Mr Agard, a former professional rugby player, was struck in his home-town of Oldham as he crossed the town’s Lee’s road.
The force of the collision broke his left leg in several places below the knee. The damage was so severe that the doctors were forced to amputate it. Because of this he has suffered from heavily restricted mobility and pain in his leg. There have also been additional medical complications after the amputation.
Due to these factors, he sued the driver of the motorbike for compensation. He argued that the driver had been negligent of his duty to drive carefully. The Judge hearing his case agreed, and awarded him both a lump sum and also yearly payments in compensation.
After awarding the settlement, the Judge described it as “fair and proper”. Mr Agard will use the money to pay for continuing health-care and living expenses.
