A gas tank driver who claims that he sneezed moments before a fatal car accident has received a 4 year jail sentence at the High Court in Edinburgh.

He had earlier been found guilty by a jury of causing death by dangerous driving.

The driver had no previous convictions and denied causing the accident by falling asleep at the wheel, using a mobile phone, drinking and driving or being distracted at the time of the accident.  He claims that he sneezed hard and jerked up out of his seat before falling back into it.  He then claimed he heard a loud crash.  He told the court how he then grabbed the steering wheel and before he knew it the accident had happened.
