A driver who struck a 59 year old cyclist on the Isle of Arran has been cleared of causing her death through careless driving.

Charges against the driver, Nick Underdown, over the death of Elspeth Kelman, were found not proven by a Jury at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court.

The police report blamed the driver for the fatal accident but the defence counsel successfully argued that those parts of the report should not be seen by the jury.

At the time of the accident, Mrs Kelman, was on an annual cycle ride in memory of her husband who had earlier died from cancer.
