A cyclist has recently received a substantial compensation payment after being seriously injured in a road traffic accident. He had been out for a ride near to his house as part of a fitness regime.
At the time of the accident he had been riding along a busy urban road. As a car pulled out from behind him to overtake, it clipped the side of his bike. This caused him to fall off his bike and land on his back.
After being taken to hospital he discovered that he had a fractured spine and a knee injury. This caused him to require surgery. He was also unable to work for a year and was in a great deal of pain.
His compensation claim was initially contested by the driver’s insurer, who argued that the cyclist was partly responsible for the accident. However, as a court date approached they offered a compensation settlement of £35,000. He accepted it and will use the money to fund his ongoing healthcare.
