A 26-year-old man has been awarded £2.3 million in compensation for personal injuries he sustained in a serious car accident. A driver was attempting an overtaking manoeuvre in order to pass a lorry when he hit Nazer Ahadi's vehicle head on, near Devizes, Swindon. He had been driving to work.

Mr Ahadi sustained severe personal injuries, leaving him disabled and suffering a brain injury. The high court ruling will see Mr Ahadi receiving compensation of £145,000 per year for life on top of the lump sum settlement; the compensation award represents the cost of the constant care and medical treatment he now needs.

Mr Ahadi came to Britain aged 13 as a refugee from Afghanistan and had integrated himself into the local community, becoming a popular figure. Following the car accident it was feared he would not walk again but he has since proved medical experts wrong, although the brain damage he sustained is irreversible. This compensation will assist him to recover from the car accident and move on with his life.
