This Thompsons client is a support worker employed by NHS Ayrshire and Arran. In the course of routine duties our client was unlucky enough to receive a needle stick injury to her left hand. It’s the type of injury that’s extremely distressing.
Through her trade union the support worker was put in touch with Thompsons who have a great deal of experience in dealing with this type of accident. Thompsons said there was a failure on the part of the health board to provide their client with suitable and adequate equipment as well as breaches of the PPE Regulations 1992 and the Workplace Regulations 1992.
As well as sustaining a needle stick injury to their left hand, our client had a psychological reaction requiring them to attend upon their GP and occupational health. Thompsons obtained a psychiatric report and this indicated that they had sustained anxiety and a depressed mood that lasted four months. In addition they was absent from work for four months and lost significant earnings.
An offer came in to settle this claim but this was rejected and upon negotiation the offer was increased significantly.
