A man, who wants to remain anonymous, has recently received a large compensation payment after being diagnosed with mesothelioma as a result of being exposed to asbestos at work. He had worked for APV Pasilik Limited for 5 years between 1960 and 1965.
The company was a maker of industrial dryers. While manufacturing the dryers it fitted them with asbestos linings. In addition to this, the factory in which the dryers were made was lagged with asbestos.
The man’s job was to carry out regular maintenance to this factory, leaving him exposed to the dangerous substance.
In February 2009 he began to become breathless easily and sought medical advice. He was diagnosed with mesothelioma caused by asbestos exposure.
It was at this point that he decided to make a compensation claim against his former employer. His employer agreed to settle his claim, and he received a payout of £147,000. He will now use the money to fund his ongoing healthcare.
