Mesothelioma Action Day in Scotland will be marked by a special conference in Edinburgh on March 27, 2008, organised by Clydeside Action on Asbestos.

Phyllis Craig Welfare Rights Officer with Clydeside Action on Asbestos said:"We felt that holding a conference to discuss the key issues affecting mesothelioma victims and their families would be the most effective way to mark Mesothelioma Action Day.

"Our speakers are some of the most prominent experts in their respective fields and the subjects covered include, Novel Therapies, Current Clinical Trials, and the Psychological Effects of Diagnosis.

"Ideally we would have liked to hold the conference on the official Action Day, which is February 27, but it was impossible to get such a distinguished speaking panel together on that date, so it will go ahead on March 27."

Phyllis added: "The conference is already over-subscribed, but copies of the speeches will be available from our offices."

Frank Maguire, senior partner with Thompsons Solicitors and leading campaigner on behalf of mesothelioma victims said:

"The conference will cover subjects that are really relevant to everyone who suffers from mesothelioma, their carers, and those who campaign on their behalf.

"Clydeside Action on Asbestos deserve every credit for organising such a significant event."

The Asbestos Related Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma Conference will be held in the Fettes Suite at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

Mr Maguire will be on the panel at the end of the session to answer questions.
