At first glance, the Holiday Village in Sarigerme appears the perfect family holiday spot with scenic views and plenty of activities on offer.  However for approximately 700 unlucky people, it would be holiday that they would remember for all the wrong reasons.

Holiday tour operator, First Choice has been bombarded with hundreds of complaints from customers who are looking to claim compensation after they became ill during or soon after a stay at the 1,000 room holiday complex.

The holidaymakers are claiming compensation for the pain and suffering they endured as a result of the stomach bugs as well as compensation for the loss of the enjoyment of their holiday.

Poor hygiene in the hotel restaurant and swimming pools has been blamed for the outbreaks.  First Choice previously had to pay compensation for guests who became ill at the same hotel in 2005, 2006 and 2007. 

Many holidaymakers who have booked to go to the resort have tried to transfer to another resort but First Choice has declined and refused to transfer the vast majority.  Those customers who decide to go ahead with a trip to the Holiday Village have been advised to write to First Choice expressing their concerns for their safety and asking them to guarantee in writing that there are no health risks. Anyone heading to the resort should take contact details for both their GP and a relevant consumer organisation so that they can seek advice while abroad.
