A couple have been awarded £160,000 in compensation after their son suffered fatal brain damage.  The compensation was awarded following critical delays by staff at the birth.

Midwives at the University Hospital of Wales, failed to spot that the unborn baby was in distress.

Although it had been noted that Ms Rees had a “high risk” pregnancy, she was told by a doctor that she was not in labour.  When she queried matters she was told that she probably needed to go to the bathroom.

After protesting further an emergency c-section was performed approximately one and half hours later, on a second doctor’s recommendation.  However the baby had been starved of oxygen during the birth and had unfortunately suffered irreversible brain damage.
