Recently published figures by Health Protection Scotland have shown that the rates of infection from MRSA and C-Diff have dropped in Scotland. The report has indicated that infections of elderly people caused by C-Diff have fallen to a record low and cases of illness caused by MRSA have also fallen.
MRSA rates have fallen 25% compared with the same period last year and C-Diff rates have fallen 42%.
Following the investigation into the C-Diff outbreak at the Vale of Leven Hospital, which Thompsons Solicitors were involved in, various efforts have been made to cut infection rates with various initiatives and measures being implemented. Some of these measures include a national MRSA screening programme, more careful prescribing of antibiotics and reminders for people to wash their hands.
However there is still some concern, as although infection rates seem to be falling for Scotland as a whole, there are still some areas where the infection rates are rising.
