Thompsons award winning trade union lawyers has secured compensation totalling almost £6,000 for an Greggs employee injured at work.
Sharon Watson was left needing surgery on her hand after she slipped on a wet floor. Ms Watson was cleaning the floor when she lost her balance and in an attempt to prevent herself from falling she put out her hand to grab onto a cabinet. The cabinet contained a metal rung used for cooling baked items which had a sharp edge. Ms Watson suffered a serious cut to tendons in her wrist and hand which had to be surgically repaired.
As a member if her union, USDAW, Ms Watson was entitled to full legal support from Thompsons who pursued Greggs on her behalf. Greggs admitted liability for the accident and Ms Watson was awarded £5,900.
Thompsons Solicitor Paul McIntosh said: “This case highlights how effective trade union legal benefits packages are and how beneficial these schemes are to our union clients. Thompsons was able to take on this case at absolutely no cost to Ms Watson and pursue the claim to ensure she was rewarded with the recompense she deserved.”
