I have been pleasantly surprised with the weather recently and I thought that the bad weather had left us alone.  We are just starting to get back to normal so I am a bit worried to see that freezing conditions are continuing to cause problems for people in Dumfries and Galloway.

More than 40 car crashes have been reported in South West Scotland following freezing temperatures overnight.  During the morning school run, a bus crashed and hit a sign near Hightae Primary.

Another road traffic accident was reported when a double decker bus skidded on ice at Tinwald Dows Road in Heathhall.  Luckily nobody seems to have been injured in the accidents.

Police have reported that the accidents have ranged from single-vehicle crashes to three and four car collisions.  Drivers are being asked to be very careful and problems due to ice are still continuing.

The Council have advised that the main roads have been treated overnight but problems have been caused as a band of freezing rain fell onto treated roads and the rain then froze.  Gritters were deployed but a couple were stuck whilst trying to treat the sheet ice.

We have had a lot of fun playing in the snow but hopefully the spring will be here soon!!
