Is it just me or has there been a spate of cyclists and motorcyclists seriously injured in Scotland’s roads of late? It is regrettable that the most vulnerable on the roads are offered no protection from negligent drivers. The latest incident occurred when the motorcycle was in a collision with a van north of Inverkeillor on the Montrose to Arbroath Road. A 33 year old man from the Montrose area unfortunately died at the scene.
I am glad to hear that the police are carrying out a thorough accident investigation into the circumstances of the accident but in my experience, they usually involve the driver of the larger vehicle failing to observe the smaller presence of a motorcycle or a bicycle on the road. My friends at Thompsons have dealt with innumerable compensation claims for cyclists and motorcyclists who have been injured in road traffic accidents and continue to do so. I do wish the local authorities would afford more space to cyclists and protect them because after all, travelling the way they do, saves on the environment and ensures that people keep fit.
