The Yard are an Edinburgh-based charity offering adventure play services for disabled children, young people, and their families. It provides them the opportunity to experience creative play in a well-supported environment.
As one of Thompsons Edinburgh’s partner charities, we are delighted to announce ten of our staff will be in attendance at their annual fundraiser this Saturday 30th September 2017.
“The Big Fun Raiser” (which this year coincides with The Yard’s 30th birthday), is an exciting evening event consisting of dinner, entertainment, and a glittering auction. All proceeds raised will go towards the continual running of The Yard and the vital services they offer.
Thompsons’ Edinburgh office chose The Yard as one of this year’s partner charities in humble recognition of the help they offer vulnerable young people in the area. The play service offers not just the ability to have fun in a supported environment; but helps prevent the isolation and exclusion children with different needs can be susceptible to in mainstream environments. The Yard is an integral part of the special needs community, for both professionals and families alike, and has an invaluable place in Edinburgh.
The Big Fun Raiser is one of a number of initiatives the Edinburgh office is undertaking to raise money. A “dress-down Friday” scheme has been initiated (and received well by staff!) together with bake sales (also, well received!).
There are also six members of staff from our Edinburgh office participating in the Great Scottish Run this Sunday 1st October 2017 (including one who will be at the Fun Raiser the night before… brave). They are running to raise funds on behalf of The Yard and our other Edinburgh partner charity, The Rock Trust (more on them to follow).
All donations no matter how small go towards running these two vital local services, who work tirelessly to improve the lives of local young people. You can donate below:
