The victims and families that Thompsons represent in the imminent Penrose Inquiry have released a media statement in the wake of Lord Penrose’s decision that their views will not be heard at the Inquiry proper.

The Inquiry, in which the remit is to investigate the transfusion of diseased blood to NHS patients, is to begin directly with expert medical expert evidence.  The families we represent, known as ‘core participants, had hoped to put forward their personal views of their suffering to the court in order to add a human element.

While this has not been allowed by the court, my friend, Solicitor Advocate Paddy McGuire, has released a press statement designed to have the same effect.

McGuire used the opportunity to express the victims feelings of anguish at what had been bestowed on them and attempted to bring home to us all the personal emotions that would be involved had you gone into hospital for treatment and come out with HIV or HEP C.

The statement was also (in a way direct evidence in court may not have been) able to articulate the exact questions the family want answered by the Inquiry and effectively lay down the gauntlet to those conducting it.

We eagerly await the Inquiry, which has been a long time coming.
