The news has been full of depressing stories this week.  I saw that despite a general decrease in road traffic accidents tragically a 6 year old boy has died after being struck by a car in the east end of Glasgow.  It is believed to be an accident involving the child’s mother reversing the vehicle.

On a happier note I was delighted to see that after 9 years Prince William is going to marry Kate Middleton.  Apparently the prince was carrying the engagement ring in his rucksack for 3 weeks before proposing.  The proposal took place whilst the couple were in holiday in Kenya when Prince William gave his fiancé his late mother’s engagement ring.

I was also surprised to see that the engagement has been making headlines in the United States where there has been a great long-standing interest in the British Royal Family. The news of the engagement triggered congratulations and widespread news coverage around the world.  It is not surprising that everyone has latched onto this happy story.  I am sure everyone else like me is fed up of hearing about stories of doom and gloom.

This is going to be the wedding of the year and I am looking forward to reading about all the details over the forthcoming months.  I wonder if I will get an invite!!
