I did not think the potholes in the roads in Glasgow could get much worse however, I read today that a road expert has warned Glasgow motorists to expect another winter of misery on the roads.
It has been reported that Glasgow City Council are struggling with the backlog of pothole repairs left from last winter. The AA has also said that even some of the temporary “patch and mend” repairs that have been made to potholes will not withstand any harsh conditions. The Evening Times has reported that some of the potholes on Cumberland Street in Glasgow which have been repaired are already showing signs that the holes are reopening.
Potholes are a nuisance for drivers and are dangerous. When I am driving, I constantly look out for potholes and try to avoid them. I find looking out for potholes distracting but necessary. I worry that if I drive into a pothole I will damage my car or worse, lose control of my car and cause a road traffic accident.
Potholes are a problem for pedestrians as well. I have seen people crossing the road and having to walk around potholes or carefully walk through potholes to try to avoid falling and sustaining a personal injury.
I would urge everyone to report potholes they see to the Council straightaway. The Council are only expected to repair potholes that they know about and that are considered hazardous. I hope that the more potholes we all report to the Council, the more potholes will be repaired and the safer Glasgow roads will be.
