If you have received a Medtronic insulin pump which is causing you any problems, you may have the right to make a no win no fee compensation claim.

Over one thousand diabetics in the UK rely on insulin pumps to help control their diabetes and maintain their health. Insulin pumps are used as an alternative to insulin injections that work by providing a pre-programmed and user adjusted doses of insulin into the user’s body.

Unfortunately within the past few years there have been three medical device alerts concerning insulin pumps, and warning that manufacturing faults may result in them causing more harm than good.

Some people have been contacted already by the manufacturers in order to recall the product. If you are one of them it might be worth getting in touch with one of our product liability lawyers to see if you are entitled to compensation.

The insulin pumps that have been recalled may lead to your developing any of these symptoms:

  • Severe headache
  • Increased/rapid heartbeat
  • Nausea
  • Tremors, anxiety
  • Uncontrolled sweating
  • Blurred vision
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Increased thirst
  • Unexplained weakness

Diabetes patients who begin to develop any of the following signs or symptoms should seek medical attention immediately as they may be experiencing an insulin overdose.

There are a number of risks associated with an inadequate amount of insulin to diabetics:

  • Diabetic Ketoacidosis
  • Hyperglycemia – high blood levels - if the pump fails to deliver enough insulin. Early signs of this include – nausea, increased thirst, blurred vision, extreme fatigue and muscle stiffness and aching.
  • Hypoglycemia – low blood levels – if the pump delivers too much insulin. Early signs of this include – shakiness, clumsiness, sweating, unexplained weakness, headache, rapid heartbeat and blurred vision
  • Seizures
  • Stroke
  • Heart attack
  • Renal failure
  • Arrhythmias

If you have suffered any of the symptoms mentioned or have received a letter from Medtronic regarding your insulin pump please contact us on 0800 0891 331.
