It has been reported that a former police officer will receive compensation for being imprisoned for a crime he didn’t commit. A claim for compensation has been raised on the police officers behalf.

The police officer was a traffic officer and was dismissed after he was found guilty of handling stolen parts. He served half of an 18 month jail term.

In 2007 the Court of Appeal overturned his conviction. The Court of Appeal heard that police officers serving at the time buried evidence that if produced could have cleared his name.

The police officer stated in relation to the compensation claim that “no matter how much money he is awarded, it will not be able to recompense me for all of the damage it has done to my life”
