A doctor was recently awarded £4.5 million following a compensation claim for workplace discrimination and trauma. The hospital consultant won a compensation claim against the NHS trust where she worked.
The doctor won cases against the NHS trust for sex and race discrimination and unfair dismissal.
The tribunal panel that awarded the doctor the compensation is reported to said they were” positively outraged at the way this employer has behaved”. The tribunal concluded that the doctor, who had a special interest in kidney diseases, would never be able to carry out her work again, which she cherished again.
The Chief Executive if the NHS trust involved issued a public apology and confirmed that the trust did not under any circumstances tolerate bullying, harassment or discrimination.
Lawyers who represented the doctor in her claim explained that the compensation awarded was higher than previous compensation awards made in similar tribunal cases and the case was unusual in that the tribunal named individuals responsible.
