A girl has received compensation for an injury she sustained when she was two years old. She has been awarded a compensation settlement of £52,000.
The injury occurred when she had been going to playgroup with her child-minder. As she opened a swing-door to go in to the hall where the playgroup took place, her thumb became trapped in the hinge. She was forced to go to hospital and ended up losing the tip of her thumb.
Her family chose to seek compensation after discovering that the hinge did not comply with health and safety regulations. It should also have had a cover fitted as it was an entrance to a child’s play area.
The compensation claim went to court and the £52,000 settlement was awarded. The money will be used to pay for the girl to get a prosthetic thumb tip. This will allow her to get the best possible use of her thumb and also benefit her cosmetically. The family is reportedly happy with the settlement.
