Frank Maguire won the prestigious Solicitor of the Year category at The Firm Magazine’s Scottish Law Awards in 2010. The judges recognised particularly his professional talent and incredible efforts in campaigning to change the law on behalf of the victims of injustice in Scotland.
In the style that everyone associated with Frank, he praised his colleagues and friends who helped him win the top award and made clear his intentions to continue changing the law to serve the most vulnerable.
The award was the second of five consecutive honours achieved by Thompsons between 2008 and 2011 during Frank’s stewardship as the firm’s Joint Managing Partner.
The judges commended his professional skills and acknowledged the key role he had played in establishing Thompsons as the leading personal injury specialist firm in Scotland while praising his political convictions and his impact in changing the law.
Congratulations came from a wide range of public figures. Richard Baker, then Scottish Labour’s Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Justice, now Shadow Finance Secretary, praised his “huge personal commitment to ensuring that our courts and the justice they deliver are available to all, regardless of their ability to pay.”
Grahame Smith General Secretary of the STUC said: “Frank Maguire is a loyal supporter of the Trade Union movement and a valuable ally in upholding and extending our members’ rights and campaigning for their interests when they conflict with those of big business, the insurance industry and even the criminal justice system”.
