Thompsons calls for renewed focus on farm safety after alarming Scottish Agricultural death stats

Chris Gordon Reacting to figures released today by the Health and Safety Executive which reveal that nearly two thirds of Scots killed at work last year worked in agriculture, Scotland’s leading personal injury firm and health and safety campaigners, Thompsons Solicitors, branded the findings “alarming” and called for a renewed focus on farm safety.

Of the fifteen workplace deaths in Scotland between April 2010 and March 2011, nine were in agriculture.

Partner at Thompsons Solicitors’ North East office, Chris Gordon, said:

“These figures are frankly alarming.  There really needs to be a renewed focus on agricultural health and safety.

“At Thompsons Solicitors we see first hand the damage that such accidents and deaths can have on the victims and their families.

“The tragedy is that so often these incidents can be avoided through better health and safety.

“One workplace death is one too many. Every effort must be made to avoid the death and injuries we see too often in our workplaces.”
