For most seasoned cyclists, the prospect of a 51 mile bike ride through the busy streets of Glasgow and Edinburgh would be a challenge, but Solicitor at Thompsons Solicitors, Roz Galloway is to take part in this weekend’s “Pedal for Scotland” only 4 months after first learning how to ride a bike.
She’s part of the firm’s twelve strong team of cyclists who will be taking part to raise funds for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres.
Roz, who first got on a bike when she was on holiday with her husband, said:
“My husband James wanted to hire a bike, so I thought: “Right now is the time to master cycling”. I didn’t quite master it, but I managed to stay upright which was a huge improvement! Turning corners was particularly difficult.”
Roz put herself forward for Pedal for Scotland before she even got on a bike. Speaking about this weekend’s event she said:
“When I signed up for Pedal for Scotland I just thought “I’ll be fine. 51 miles isn’t that far”. Now I’m starting to feel a little more anxious.
“I’m feeling a mix of excited and terrified. I’ve been training for it, cycling about 15 miles every other day, but the full 51 miles is going to be a challenge.
“At Thompsons Solicitors we do a lot of work to help people who have developed asbestos-related cancers. We don’t just go through the courts to get justice for them we’re also committed to a number of groups who help support them and their families through such a difficult time.
“Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres do great work for the victims of cancer and their families and I hope the money we raise will help them continue the brilliant work they do.”
