The road traffic accident occurred on Saturday 12 June at around 1pm, according to Strathclyde Police. The crash happened near the Brookside Garden Centre, where the elderly couple had just left.

According to witnesses, the McCallums’ car pulled out in front of the bus, and the bus collided with the car, striking the driver’s side of the car and pushing the car 20 metres along the road.

Jean McCallum, 72, died at the scene. Ronald McCallum, 73, was airlifted to the Southern General hospital, but later died. No-one on the bus was injured, but the driver was treated for shock.

Part of the road was closed to allow an investigation to be carried out. Police have appealed to any witnesses of the crash to contact them.

According to local media, the junction where the car crash occurred was ‘notorious’, and was widely regarded as a dangerous junction with poor visibility for cars pulling out.
