Police are appealing for the public to come forward with further information in regards to a road traffic accident which occurred in Turnberry, South Ayrshire on 11 January.

A vehicle travelling along Girvan Road was in collision with a gritter lorry injuring the car's driver and passenger.

A 17-year-old man, confirmed as the driver of the car, was taken to Ayr Hospital and later transferred to Glasgow's Southern General for further treatment of a serious head injury.

The driver also sustained injury to his neck and has been reported as being in a critical condition.

His passenger, a woman aged 17, was also injured and taken to hospital; however, the Daily Record reports that her injuries are not life-threatening.

The driver of the gritter lorry escaped physical injury.

The cause of the accident currently remains unclear and no further comment has been made by authorities.

Over the weekend parts of Scotland experienced extreme weather including very strong winds. Police are urging drivers to continue to exercise caution when using the nation's roads.

Thompsons' solicitors wish the driver and passenger a speedy recovery.
