Farming company, GJ Orr, has been fined £112,500 after a worker was crushed to death between the rollers of a potato harvester.  Keth Wannan’s arms and legs were caught in the machine and he was only freed after the harvester was taken apart by rescuers.

A Heath and Safety Executive investigation found that GJ Orr had not conducted a proper assessment of the risks involved in carrying out maintenance and testing work on the potato harvester.  The investigation also found there was no safe system of work in place for maintenance to be carried out.

GJ Orr was fined at Cupar Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to breaking health and safety rules.

I know that working on a farm can be a dangerous occupation but accidents like this just should not happen and can be easily prevented.
