Mesothelioma compensation claims can often prove difficult to process due to the length of time the disease takes to develop.

Often the employers and insurers legally responsible for recompensing those made ill by workplace asbestos exposure are difficult to trace or proof of exposure is difficult to ascertain.

One Scottish family are fighting to secure compensation in memory of their mother who passed away from mesothelioma in May 2014 before a claim could successfully be heard.

The 75-year-old had worked in the factory of a leading carpet-making firm based in Bridgeton, Glasgow from the late 1950s to the mid-1960s.

During her time working at the factory the woman believed she had been exposed to asbestos fibres and had not been offered protective equipment as defence against the harmful substance.

The Herald Scotland reports that, before her death, the woman described her working environment as "extremely dusty".

During the 1960's, she also worked for an insulating company, sewing boiler covers for steam locomotive engines. It is possible that asbestos exposure may also have occurred during this employment.

The deceased woman's mother, who worked alongside her at the insulating firm, also developed mesothelioma and died from the disease.

Legal representatives of the family are now appealing former colleagues to come forward with further information which could assist in establishing details regarding working conditions within the carpet factory.

If evidence of asbestos exposure can be found, it may be possible for the family to make a claim for compensation against the now defunct company's former insurers.
