I was shocked to read that health and safety failings led to an employee at Lowmac Alloys being crushed between two skips. The company were rightly fined £80,000 by the Health and Safety Executive but this is an accident that, if all the proper procedures were followed, should never have happened.
The Executive found that the company had failed to properly risk assess traffic management on their site which led to Steven Graham being trapped between skips after an 18 tonne shovel loader crashed into one of the skips.
From the report it’s clear that management knew that employees had resorted to urinating in the yard because the toilets were too disgusting to use- this was the reason why Steven was between the two skips at the time.
Mr Graham’s injuries are so bad that they’ll affect him for the rest of his life. The tragedy is that they could have been avoided if his employers acted properly.
It is shocking that people still work in conditions like that on the Lowmac Alloys’ site I hope they and other companies like them take note of the devastation their actions can cause to their workers’ lives.
My friends at Thompsons Solicitors represent many people who have been injured at work due to the negligence and failings of their employers. They see the devastating implications injuries can have on a person’s life and always do everything they can to get the injured person the maximum amount of compensation they can in the shortest possible time.
They’re well worth a call whatever accident you may have had whether it’s a road traffic accident, a workplace accident or you suffer from an industrial disease. They’re no win no fee and their experts will give you the best possible advice.
