One of the things that I love about all of this snow that we have been having is that it allows all of the family to take a trip up north to go skiing.  The three of us love to drive up to Glenshee at the weekend and spend a day out on the slopes.

Although skiing and snowboarding are great fun activities over the winter months, they can be very dangerous and can result in serious injury.

It is very important to make sure that you are safe out on the slopes this winter.  I recently read that more than half of British skiers do not wear helmets.  I can not believe this.  Although only a small percentage of ski injuries are serious injuries, if a head injury is sustained it could be life threatening and could have been avoided if a helmet had been worn.

Mrs Thom is a bit of a fan of après-ski.  However, this is only at the end of the day once we have finished skiing.  It is very important that people do not ski after they have been drinking alcohol.  It is hard enough to keep your balance without having had a drink! If you lose control and crash into another skier because you have been drinking then they may bring a successful claim for compensation against you.

My final word of advice for on the slopes is to make sure that all of your equipment fits properly and is in good working order.

Even if you do take all these precautions, ski accidents do frequently happen.  If you have been injured in an accident on the slopes that was caused by the fault of someone else, you may be entitled to make a claim.
