A 28 year old woman suffered horrific 40% burns to her body when negligent care home staff lowered her in to a bath of scalding water.  Jeanette De Bono, who suffers from Retts Syndrome, was injured by the very people who were employed to care for and look after her. It has been reported that a substantial compensation settlement has been agreed by lawyers for  Jeanette De Bono and the Wellcare Nursing Home.

Horrifically when Jeanette De Bono was lowered into the bath of scalding water the care home staff confused her symptoms of pain and distress with the symptoms of an epileptic fit.

Prior to the incident Jeanette De Bonos condition was well controlled by medication and she was able to lead an active life. The accident sadly caused her to lose some of her mobility. Part of the settlement agreement was for compensation to pay for new equipment like an electric wheel chair and car to allow her to go out with her family.

Jeanette De Bono’s parents, who were described by the Judge as being devoted and loving, fought for compensation from the care home on their daughter’s behalf.

I wish Jeanettte De Bono a swift recovery and hope that the care home involved and all care homes around the country take note of the circumstances of this accident and make sure a similar accident never happens again.
