Camping Accidents
Everyone enjoys going on a camping holiday, regardless of whether they are pitching a tent in the great outdoors or booking into a designated campsite which offers facilities.
But while most people will have a fun and relaxing time, others may fall foul of the few hazards that are associated with campsites. These usually relate to the wear and tear of the facilities themselves. Examples include:
- Swimming Pools Campsite swimming pools should be supervised by a lifeguard to ensure that swimmers are safe in and around the pool. Their job is to provide assistance if anyone is having difficulty in the pool and to ensure that the area around the pool is kept free of hazards. If an accident happens at the pool which results in personal injury and which could have been prevented by a lifeguard then the campsite may be liable to a compensation claim.
- Shower Blocks Shower blocks should be checked regularly by staff to ensure that the floor is not slippery and that there is no debris lying around that could be tripped over. There should be signs stating that the floor is wet and that users should be cautious. If a camper is hurt in a shower block accident that could have been prevented, then the camper may be able to bring a compensation claim against the campsite.
- Electrical Points Most campsites provide electrical points and these should be regularly checked to make sure that there is no damage that may result in someone being injured. If a camper is injured because the points were not maintained properly, that camper may be able to raise a successful compensation claim against the campsite.
As a general rule, if you have been injured as a result of poorly equipped or maintained facilities on a camping site, then you may be entitled to make a claim for compensation. But you only have three years from the date of the accident in which to make your claim.
