A motorway worker made a compensation claim after being struck by a hit and run driver while working. He had been working out of the back of a truck, picking up cones from the side of the motorway late at night. As he was working a van driving on the motorway swerved towards him, striking his head with its wing mirror. The driver did not stop.
As a result of the impact the man suffered a fractured skull and damage to the frontal lobes of his brain. This has had a severe impact on his ability to work and on his quality of life.
As the driver of the van could not be found he submitted his claim to the Motor Insurers Bureau (MIB) under the Unidentified Drivers Agreement. This scheme lets the victims of hit and run accidents receive compensation from the MIB. After being assessed by brain specialists, the man was awarded £200,000 in compensation.
