Alan was appointed a Partner in Thompsons’ Glasgow office in January 2018.
He has spent over ten years working closely with major Scottish Trade Unions to provide representation to their members in respect of any legal issues which may arise. He provides advice to the Unions in relation to trade disputes and industrial action and has spoken at Union Conferences in both Scotland and England, and provided legal training to the Union’s officials. Alan frequently appears in Scotland’s courts and Tribunals and has represented his clients in the Sheriff Courts, Court of Session, Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal, and the High Court. He has also addressed the Traffic Commissioner’s Office and the Criminal Injuries Compensation Panel on behalf of his clients, and acted for the family of the deceased during a lengthy Fatal Accident Inquiry.
Away from his Trade Union practice, Alan has considerable experience pursuing cases relating to medical negligence, where has dealt with a wide range of issues, including those involving fatalities or damage sustained during birth.
Alan is also dealing with many individuals who have suffered abuse during childhood and has worked with charity groups to provide support to those who seek justice in this regard.
Alan prides himself on his clear communication and his approachability, no matter the complexities of the issues at hand. He is pragmatic in his approach and is always alert to the needs and expectations of his clients.
Alan is also a Notary Public.
