The BBC have reported that 2 Jersey hip replacement patients are to be examined as part of the product recall. Jersey health officials have advised that the DePuy metal on metal hope replacement was only used on younger patients who are under 65. They have stated that only 11 had been fitted in Jersey since 2009.
The Health Department have advised that 2 of those 11 patients required further examination but other people who had them fitted outside the Island were also invited to attend the General hospital for examination.
Patients have been reassured that the risk of serious complications is relatively low, and would be associated with pain.
Although DePuy have confirmed that they will take financial responsibility for all appropriate investigations and treatment which may be necessary, you should not try and deal with matters yourself.
